Matthew House Fort Erie is a Canadian registered non-profit charity organistion, which provides refugee claimanants, broken families and homeless people with emergency shelter and transitional housing. We are a safe and welcoming community organisation in Fort Erie, Ontario with a twenty-year history helping newcomers integrate to Canadian living. Our office and emergency shelter are located at 183 Central Ave, Fort Erie. a short distant from the Peace Bridge.
People who come to Canada to seek asylum often have very few resources and little understanding of the complexities of our refugee determination system in Canada. The staff at Matthew House assists individuals and families with their many needs of navigating the immigration, health and settlement systems in Canada. Each new guest is treated with dignity and respect as they receive the guidance and advice which will give them the best chance for a successful future in Canada.
Many refugees arrive traumatized. Often they have been victims of violence.
People can live at our Emergency Shelter for about a month or more depending on their situation before moving to the transitional or affordable housing.
We walk with people throughout the refugee claim process (which can take up to two years).
Our Community is full of people who want to help. We work to help the people providing services with the people who need them. Come connect with people in new ways!
